Kiwi Sport | Swimming

LI: To learn how be safe in water.
For Kiwi Sport we wore life jackets because we went into the deeper side of the pool.
The first thing that we did in the pool was to get in a chain. We then had to get in a circle and the smallest one had to be in the middle and the bigger people would be outside of the circle. If we did this in the ocean the bigger people would survive because they have enough heat so smallest one in the middle would keep warm. We then tried to touch the floor. After that we did a specific jump called the pencil jump, we did this by putting one of our arms on the opposite side shoulder and the other arm on our head, we jumped twice in the pool. I really enjoyed joining in with the others and doing the chain.

Rube Goldberg Machine

LI: to apply knowledge of simple machines to create a Rube Goldberg machine
We had to make a Rube Goldberg Machine that includes all of the six simple machines. We had to choose one of three challenges that the Rube Goldberg machine has to accomplish, the challenges that we had to choose from were rolling dice out of a cup, hitting a ball into a hole with a putt and to turn on a chrome book. The challenge that we chose was rolling dice out a cup.

Our first plan was having an incline plane and a marble hit dominoes, that plan didn't work so we made another one. Our final plan was books hitting a backwards wedge down an incline plane to hit a person, that person will cut a string that is attached to a felt tip pen, the felt tip pen would drop and hit another person, that person will then push me and I will lift a chair from the back to make a car roll down an incline plane to hit the cup and roll the dice.

The machine was challenging because the car got stuck in the tube and the felt tip pen didn't touch the person. For the levers we used books, for the incline plane we used two sticks and for another wheel & axle we used a cardboard tube, for the wedge we used a pyramid block and for the wheel & axle we used a car. I think that instead of the felt tip pen dropping on the person I think that the person behind could've used a ball  to roll it at the person, and for the car in the incline plane. The simple machines that my group used was a lever, an incline plane, a wedge and a wheel & axle.

The main thing that we talked about at kiwi can was how we could get over challenges and what type of examples of challenges we have in school.

The energizer that we played today was a game where we all got into a circle, and we all had to follow certain types of commands, the commands were: look up, look down, turn around, touch the ground, jump in and jump out. If we fail one of the commands we are out of the competition and we have to sit down inside the circle.

The activity that we played was a game were we had to solve a puzzle, the puzzle had six pieces, if each of the pieces were put in the right placement it would made a plus sign. If you want to try the puzzle you can try by looking at the photo below.

I learned by going to kiwi can, by talking about the challenges we have at school and how we can overcome them.
