Natural Disasters | Earthquake

 LI: to learn about natural disasters.

This week we learnt about a natural disaster of our choice, we chose to do research on earthquakes. Our task was to make a DLO explaining what a earthquake is, how it is caused and what you need to do when there is a earthquake. We also added information to know how to prepare for an earthquake.

Natural Disasters | Tsunami

 LI: to learn about the different natural disasters.

This week we learnt about a natural disaster of our choice, we chose do the the tsunami. Our task was to make a DLO explaining what a tsunami is, how it is formed and what you need to do when there is a tsunami look for higher ground or go inland. 

Cyber Smart - Matching Info with the Image

 LI: to teach people why we should match the information with the image.

For one of our distance learning topics, me and Vayan chose to do cyber smart. The task today for cyber smart was to teach people that we should match the image with the information in DLO's that we make. Me and Vayan made a slide show explaining what we should do and what we shouldn't do, we also added in a voice recording of why it is important to match up the image and the information.

Scientist for the four areas of Science

 LI: To research about the famous scientist that link to the four branches of Science.

For our distance learning this week for reading we did some research on famous scientist. For our reading topic this term we are talking about “What is Science”. We didn’t do any random scientist we could find, we were tasked at finding famous scientist that study/studied one of the four branches of science (geology/astronomy, chemistry, biology  & physics). For physics we chose Albert Einstein, for biology we chose Charles Darwin, for geology/astronomy we chose Charles Lyell, and lastly for chemistry we chose Ernest Rutherford. We also used a question dice to help us find a question to answer for the scientist (e.g: What are they known for?  Why did they study biology?).  We made an interactive slideshow having the main information about the scientist we chose.

Career Path

LI: to choose a career path.

For our career tasks this week we made a DLO about our career paths. We made a DLO to talk about the entry requirements to get the career. The career I chose was a chef because the pay was good and it sounded interested. In the DLO I linked the DLO I have done on the Career "Chef". 

Dance Class #1

LI: to use the movement of our body to make something creative.

This term for PE we were chosen to have Dance. When we started the session we started with a warm up. We did some basic movements (Running, High knees, etc) to warm ourselves up before the actual session. After the warm up we learnt some actions (snake action, stick action, etc) to do when the music stops. There is no wrong way to dance. After that we got into groups and tried to create letters out of the people we had in our groups, each letter we successfully made we got a point, the team with the most points wins.

Life ED

LI: To learn about how we can get through life.

The guest that has visited us in our school are called Life ed. Life education come to schools every two years to teach the kids in those schools about Hauora and how to be happy. It was PBS's turn to have a lesson with Life ed. We met Nicole from life ed and showed us some videos of how a person called Kahpi was being mocked and how after that his Hauora was unbalanced. After that we wrote down what we could do to help Kahpi get through this. We learnt that when we are sad we should seek help. After that we learnt how to have a well being in all the walls of Hauora (Spiritual, Mental, Social, Physical).
