Inquiry

LI: to understand what is needed to sustain human life away from Earth.
We went onto a slide that had boxes with questions about if a planet can sustain life, we had to chose planets, I chose Saturn. Sadly we cant live on Saturn, for now at least. I've researched the if Saturn was too hot or cold, if had too much gravity or less and many more. I learned by going onto the slide, choosing a planet and research if the planet could sustain life.

Basic Facts Boxes

LI:to remember basic maths facts.
For extra work I did basic facts box, a basic facts box is a box with equations that we have to answer. I use this to practice my math for the future math lessons. My time was 7m 5s.This week I learned by doing the basic maths box and by practicing my basic facts. 


SSR Selfie

LI: to summarise and retell the text.
I read a book called, Jack Scratch. I used this book to do SSR Selfie. This book is mainly about a cat going on adventures to find things. Jack the scratch tries finding a secret treasure that a pirate said.I learned by using my book to do SSR Selfie 

Decimals



LI: to practice solving decimal addition and subtraction problems.
Decimals are numbers that have less value than one, but more value than zero. I made a poster talking about how to add decimals, how to subtract decimals and what are decimals. I also had to solve decimal problems in my book, to solve these problems I used written algorithm. I learned by solving the problems and making the poster.

Dialogue | WIP ( Work in Progress)



LI: to write a narrative in the form of a play.
We had to make dialogue for our characters in our narrative. We color coded them so when Mr Wong's reading group reads their lines it makes it a lot easier. In our group we split up into partners and chose two characters to have dialogue with each other. I learned by making the dialogue with my partner.

Ki O Rahi | Sports Day

LI: to learn how to cooperate with each other when playing Ki O Rahi.
Today the people who signed up to play the sport Ki O Rahi went to Dunkirk park to compete against other schools. Before the sports day we were split into three groups, the year 5's and 6's were split up into two groups and the year 7's and 8's were one big group. Group one from the year 5's and 6's won five games, group two won three games and the year 7's and 8's won six games. It was a challenge competing with the other schools. We learned by playing for our school in the Ki O Rahi inter school event.

African Drumming

L.I: to learn African drumming.
Johnny from Rhythm Interactive taught us four rhythms on the djembe.  Johnny taught us by singing and clapping the rhythms for us to copy. One of the call and return tunes was "I like chocolate cake", "so do I." Johnny teaches a message to children to children. That message is that "together, we can make a change". Today I enjoyed playing the drums and clapping to the rhythms that Johnny made.

Zoo Trip

LI: to learn about the animals and how to look after them.
PBS went to the Auckland zoo to learn about the animals and how to look after them. To start off the trip we got  into our groups and we went to the Africa section of the zoo to learn about the zebras, the giraffes, ostrich, Nyala and the White Rhinoceros. After we learnt about each animals we moved on the Meerkat enclosure. After the Meerkats we went to see Angela and Burma the elephants and the flamingos. After the elephants we ate our lunch and we split up into seperate groups and moved onto looking at other animals. The first animals that we got to see were the Meerkat in a Meerkat tunnel, we also got to see tortoises and their babies, we also got to see love birds, love birds have a colorful green feathers on them.We then moved on to other animals at the zoo, we saw the golden lion tamarin, penguins, seals and many more. I learned by going to the zoo and learning about the animals.

Reading | WIP (Work in Progress)

LI: to build vocabulary
The task for this week was to read a text, use the table mat to skim and scan, we then had to go on a synthesis google draw, on that we had write our prior knowledge about the text, write our new knowledge about the text and new understandings about the text. I learned by building vocabulary.

Dialogue | WIP (Work in Progress)

LI: to write a narrative in a form of a play.
The task for writing this week was to go onto a google drawing to explain the story in T.O.P.E.S (Title, Orientation, Problem, Events and Solution/Conclusion. We then had to go onto a google draw with a story board to show pictures of the narrative. We then had to make a dialogue of two of the characters in our story, sadly our teacher is sick so we can't finish our work, so this is a work in progress. I learned by going on both google draws and making the dialogue.

Identifying Decimals


LI: to identify tens, hundredths, thousands.
Decimals are numbers that have less value than one, but more value than zero. We had to go onto a slide show with questions and decimal numbers, there were questions about the decimals. We had to answer the questions in the boxes, after the answers we had to visually show the fraction of the decimal number on the diagram on the right side of the page.

Hiwi the Kiwi Fishing for the Future

LI: to be responsible in the sea and when fishing.
In the ocean we have lots of fish dead because of our rubbish that we throw into the ocean. To learn how to prevent that from happening we were visited by the minstrel and his wife, they both teach people how to be clever when out at sea. We learned when catching a fish we have to measure the legal fish size. To keep us safe from drowning in the water, we wear life jackets. We also learned a little trick to catch fish, if you see lots of birds in the sky that means there are fish in the water. Also we learned to use a wet towel while picking a fish or else the fish would have a hand print on it. To keep the fish nice when you eat it, you have to use salt ice. Other than learning about the safety we listened to his stories and we sang his songs, we did challenges and answered his questions.

Orientation & Setting | Plan


LI: to plan a narrative.
We made a google slide about our plan to make a narrative, we are going to work on different parts of the narrative, the parts that we are work on this week is the orientation and the setting. Our play is based leprechaun that steals shiny things. We learned by writing the orientation and the setting.

Fractions in Sets

LI: To calculate fractions off sets.
We had to go onto a slide with fraction questions and we had to use calculations to get the answer for each fraction question on the google slides, we then had to write the calculations in our math's book. The questions would come in different unit fractions, the unit fractions in the google slides were: halves, quarters, fifths and tenths. I learned by doing the calculations of the fractions.

Seasons in Maori


LI: to learn the seasons in Te Reo Maori.
The word for seasons in Maori is Tau. Spring, summer, autumn and winter have their own words in Maori. We used the Te Ara website to find the information that was needed. I learned by making a poster about the seasons in Maori.

Kiwi Can

LI: to learn how to use integrity.
This week for kiwi we talked about integrity, integrity means doing the right thing when no one is watching. The energizer for kiwi can today was catch the cone, we had to turn to the person next to us and the cone would be put in between both of the two people, one person would either say heads, shoulders and we would need to do those things, but if the person says cone both of the two people have to get the cone as quick as they can, the first person to get the cone wins. The activity was a team task, we had to make a structure to stop a ball from getting to the ground. I learned by going to kiwi can and learning about integrity.

Maori/English Names of Planets

LI: to learn how to pronounce the planets in our solar system in Maori/English.
The task for inquiry this week was to make a google slide show with information and the English/Maori names of the planets in our solar system. We than had to make a video on how to pronounce the Maori and English names for the planets in our solar system. In the video we had to add in some quick facts as well. I learned by making a video on how to pronounce the Maori and English names for the planets in our solar system. The video will be at the end of the slide.

Table Mat & Making Connections

LI: to make connections.
The task for reading this week was to make connections with a text, the types of connections we had to make were, a connection between the original text and another text, text to world is a connection between the world and the text and text to self is connecting something from yourself with the text. We also had to do the table mat with the text as well. The text we were reading was, Chris Pither. Chris Pither is known to be the youngest race car driver in the world! I learned by making connections with the text and building vocabulary on the table mat.

Kiwi Can

LI: Follow through with what we say.
For kiwi can this week we talked about our promises and integrity. A promise means following through with what we say and integrity means coping with our challenges and bouncing back. For the energizer we had to play a game called 21, we had to get a group of people to get into the shape of a circle, one person starts off by a person say a number and looking at another person then that person has to say the following number and look at another person, this goes on until one person says 21. The activity was writing three goals that we wanted to achieve in the future. I learned by going to kiwi can.

Paper and Plastic Fractions

LI: to relate fractions with division.
Our task was to figure out fractions and unit fractions of beans and paper cut outs. We had to go on a slide which had different tasks for us to do with either paper or the beans. The task would ask us to figure out the fraction and unit fraction. We also had to take a multiple picture, division photo and unit fraction photo.
