Using Exponents

LI: to understand exponents.

This week for our maths challenge we worked in pairs/groups of three to solve a maths problem, the maths problem was about the mythological monster called the Hydra, the Hydra is known for growing two more heads when 1 head is cut off. The question was: If all the heads were cut of a Hydra every day, how many heads would the hydra have on the third day? The second question was the same with the first but with ten days. For our strategy we just did the amount of heads the day before multiplied by 2.

Division in Parts Strategy

LI: To use the strategy 'Division in Parts' with larger numbers. (3 digit numbers divided by 1 digit numbers)

For maths this week the work I did was to learn a strategy called 'Division in Parts' with larger numbers. I made a copy of a slide that had different questions, but I created a DLO about my understanding of the strategy, after that I created a screencastify to show my understanding of the strategy. Down there you can click on the photo in the DLO to take you to the screencastify I created. Link to video.

Origami Airplane Wingspans

LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wingspan and area
on lift.

For term 4 we are studying aerodynamics. We learnt what variables are as well as
independent and dependent variables.

Our task this week was to create 12 paper/origami planes focusing on one certain design
and studying each aspect of the design and which part of the paper planes are important
and how they affect launch and flight.

A variable is a feature of an object or thing that can change between multiple types of
the object/item. An independent variable is unchanged by other variables or will not be
changed by other aspects or assets of a variable. A dependent variable is depends on
another factor in order to be changed.

Least Common Multiple (WIP)

LI: to earn and create money by maths.
A least common multiple is when two numbers share the smallest number. Me and three others are working on a tutorial about least common multiples, on the tutorial we are explaining what least common multiples are and how to find the least common multiple. The tutorial is a work in progress. I learned by working on the tutorial.

Basic Facts

LI:to remember basic maths facts.
For extra work I did basic facts box, a basic facts box is a box with equations that we have to answer. I use this to practice my math for the future math lessons. My time was 6m  . This week I learned by doing the basic maths box and by practicing my basic facts.

Decimals

LI: to practice solving decimal addition and subtraction problems.
Decimals are numbers that have less value than one, but more value than zero. I made a poster talking about how to add decimals, how to subtract decimals and what are decimals. I also had to solve decimal problems in my book, to solve these problems I used written algorithm. I learned by solving the problems and making the poster.

Number Poster

LI: to think flexibly about numbers.
For Math's we had to learn about facts that related to the number that we chose. To start the lesson we had to get into groups of three, after we got into groups of three we had to have a brain storm about a number, we had to see how many equations we could find that made that number. After the brain storm we had to go off and get our own number and brain storm, but we had to put it on a google doc with some actual facts about the number. This week we learned by having a brain storm about a number, then picking a number on our own and figuring out facts about that number.

Math's Questions (1/3, 1/4 and 1/5)

LI: to learn how to make a problem using fractions.
This week for math's I got into a group of three, we were given three fractions to choose from so we could make up a question, we could pick any topic and the questions were all based on one question form. The people that I was working with was Mojtaba and Chris, Chris and Mojtaba did soccer based questions and I did a game based question. This week we learned by focusing our work, by working our hardest and by listening to the instruction.

Multiplication Activities

Link to google slide: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-zr1SI9Yl0j6zIlaifZ29P92X1CZEdPg_932dI08eyU/edit?usp=sharing
LI: to remember the math's knowledge last term.
This week for math's I made a google slides about activities all the activities were based on multiplication, I made three activities so there is one activity for one strategy, one for another strategy and a another strategy. I made three so I could show three types of strategy's to solve a multiplication problem. We did the same thing from last week, but we chose a different topic. This week for math's I learned by listening to the instructions, by working my hardest and by being focused on my work.

Time Vocabulary

LI: to learn about time.
This week for math's we talked more about time, this week we made a vocabulary list of words that link with time. I have found twenty one words that link with time and I gave each of the words their definition, so I started from the smallest part of time all the way to the biggest part of time. I got some of my words from this vocabulary list . This week I learned by listening to the instructions, by working hard and by being focused on my work.

Stations

LI: to use a formula to calculate the area of rectangles and squares
This week for math's we did stations, the stations were just pieces of paper, there were also digital copies as well. Each station (Pieces of paper) had maths problems and we had to solve them. Some were about area and were to put them, and some were a bit of cutting, moving and taping. There were five stations if you want to know what station one, station two, station three, station four or even station five were about look on the google slides. Look on the first slide to see station one. Go to the second slide to go on station two and it goes on. Today I learned by working with my group. We learned by listening to the instructions and by working hard.

Fractions

LI: To understand corresponding fraction, decimals and percentages.

LI: To understand mixed number, improper and equivalent fractions
Today for math's I learned about four things. I learned about percentages, decimals, mixed number fractions and improper fractions. Today I also learned to show another fraction that's equivalent to one fraction. I learned by using my prior knowledge into helping me get my work done.

Maths

LI:to use standard written form to solve addition and subtraction problems.
LI:Carry out column addition and subtraction up to four digits.
For math's today I learned a new game, if you want to learn the game watch the video above. I also learned how to solve addition and subtraction problems with the standard written form.
I learned to make a video showing how to play the game and I learned to answer subtraction questions with the standard written form. I learned by listening to the instructions, working hard and by being focused on my work.
