Flip Grid, QAR, Sythesis | Reading
LI: to identify the main ideas in a text.
For reading this week we did QAR and a synthesis about a text called Too much Technology, the text was about how technology can disconnect us from our families and friends, keeping kids from getting out and the text basically talked about the dangers of technology.
QAR means question answer response, the QAR google drawing had four boxes with different types of questions, the questions were a right there question, a right there question is a question that has an answer that can be spotted straight away, a think and search question is a question that has an answer that might be in different paragraphs, an author and you question is a question that has answer were you need to use background information to find out the answer and an on my own question is a question that the answer is not the text but we have to use background information and searching skills. There were questions about the text and we had to put them in one of the four boxes and answers them.
Synthesizing means getting our prior knowledge about the text, and our new information. We then put our new information and our prior knowledge of the text to make a new understanding of the text.
We then had to make a flip grid video of the text and if we should agree or disagree. I learned by making a flip grid, doing the synthesis and by doing the QAR questions.

Print Advertising
LI: to learn about persuasive tools in advertising.
For reading this week we did a slide show of different advertisements, we also had to define four words in our own words that relate to persuasive advertising and examples of each word to explain what it is.
After the key vocab we moved onto one slide that we had to do as a group, we were giving an advertisement and we had to answer questions of the advertisement, after that we moved onto doing two other advertisements but on our own. We the had to put all of the groups vocab in the slide show and we had to do the other advertisements.

Pulley
LI: to learn about a pulley.
Another simple machine that we learnt about for inquiry was a pulley. A pulley is a rope passing through a wheel to lift something. To demonstrate this we got two training sticks and a rope, we tied one side of the rope to one of the training sticks and we made a loop around the other, four people are holding both sides of the sticks, one person is then pulling on the rope so that it can pull the opposite stick across, we found out that pulleys half the amount of force being used to lift something. I learned by doing the google draw.

Ihumatao | Why
LI: to separate fact from opinion.
For the last slide of Ihumatao we had to explain what our opinion is and w had to write down three points about why we should agree with the opinion. We also had to write the conclusion of our opinion. My opinion is that they shouldn't build houses on Ihumatao. My three reasons is that Ihumatao is a sacred land, the prices are too high in Auckland for houses and the dead were buried into the ground of Ihumatao.

Kiwi Can
LI: to use resilience in the community.
Resilience means coping with our challenges and bouncing back. The topic for the few weeks is self discipline/self control.
The energizer for kiwi can today was game game called rats and rabbits, there are two sides, one side are the rabbits and the other side are the rats. To start of the game one person says either rats or rabbits, if the say rabbits the rabbits have to pick up a cone before the rats do, and it would be the same for the rats.
The activity that we played was a game were we had to get in a group and we had to do different types of challenges, the challenges were: re-create the catchphrase, write the alphabet backwards, do 5 Push ups, 5 sit ups, 5 burpees and 5 squats.
The challenging part about the challenges was that we had to do them under a minute. I overcame this by trying my best to do it fast. The rats and rabbits game was challenging because I couldn't have self control over my self, I had overcame it by being calming down and being happy for the other person for winning.

Poetry and Speech Finals
LI: to learn persuasive speeches.
For the first time in 2019 for Panmure Bridge School we had a speech and poetry competition/finals. Near the start of the term we worked on making speeches or reciting poems, some people were picked to present their speech or poem to the whole school in the hall. We were lucky to get a special visit from a person named Stevenson, he is a teacher from Tamaki college. He was going to be the judge for our competition to see who came first, second or third. After all of speeches and poems were presented we were told the first second and third. My favorite speech was about how we can stand up fetchers and save the land that belongs to people at Ihumatao, this speech was writen by a person named Mele. I liked this speech because it stands up for people and it had a lot of enthusiasm. My favorite poem was about a person talking about himself, this poem was recited by Malassi.

After the speeches, everyone who presented their speech was given a document of different types of feedback, each feedback had a score out of five. At the bottom showed the total score we got for the speech presentation.

For this weeks topic for kiwi can we talked about self control and self discipline. Self control is controlling yourself and self discipline is disciplining yourself. The first game that we played was called shoulders, knees and toes, most of you should know how to play that game, so I don't need to explain how to play it. The other game that we played was role play. We had to do a role play about a situation and how we can show self control. I learned by going to kiwi can.
