Woodwork Planning | Tech

 LI: to plan our designs.

Today LS2 went to the first tech session of the year. The year eights learnt about wood work and the year sevens did food technology. I started with wood work and we learnt the basic guidelines we must follow whilst in the workshop. We learnt about the different things that come in play with wood working like: joints, measuring in millimetres, and planning. In the session we planned out eight toy designs we could make out of a plank of wood. We picked eight designs off of a piece of paper and we drew all of our planning on a blank piece of paper, once we were done we could start working on our own toy designs.

Kapa Haka Museum Trip

LI: To learn the teachings of our tupuna (ancestors) and the history of New Zealand's native people and their land.

To start the trip we all met in the hall and we were introduced to two of the people that were going to be guiding us through the museum. We were also told there was a quiz and the answers were going to be told in plain sight,  The challenge was to search for the answers of 6 questions. Throughout the day, we added extra questions. Those that met the challenge and answered all 10 questions correctly get a small prize. All the answers to these questions were in the talkings.. After the introductions we watched a short video of the rules and guidelines we must follow to explore certain sections of the Museum. Then we walked to the bus and went to the museum. At the museum we learnt a lot about the weaponry native Maori used, the carvings in the Whare/Marae.

Activity #1 Cybersmart

LI: be cybersmart and use our devices to learn create, share.

This week we did two cyber smart activities, this task was one of those two and it was based upon the kawa of care. The kawa of care is a list of safety guidelines students in our school must follow in order to use their Chromebook. In these tasks we could fill in the missing words in the list of the safety guide lines.

Activity #2 Cybersmart

LI: to understand the keys and safety guide lines for our Chromebook.

This week we learnt about the shortcuts and keys of our school chrome books. We went onto the DLO you see above I took a refresher on the useful shortcuts my Chromebook has. In the slide show there is a table showing the acts of what some of the shortcuts can do (example: Select all, Undo, Delete). Next to those actions are empty boxes for us to fill in, in those empty boxes we are supposed to write shortcut to the assigned action.

Why it is important to be Hydrated

LI: to learn the benefits of hydration.

This week LS2 learnt about why we need to be hydrated, and the outcome of being dehydrated. We then created a DLO about the attributes of hydration and the consequences of dehydration, and we also added the definitions of hydration and dehydration. Hydration is the process of feeding your body water, and dehydration is when your body isn’t supplied with enough water. We compared those two definitions in a T chart.

Leadership

LI: to show our understanding of what leadership is.

This week for writing LS2 worked in groups of 5 - 6 people to find the definition of leadership. First we brainstormed all the examples linked to leadership onto a piece of paper. Second we used that brainstorm to give us a basic idea of what leadership is. Then we wrote down all the important words linked to leadership, we then used those words to create a summary. After that we created a DLO about our summary and the process of making it.

Whats your Favourite Video Game?

L.I To plan and carry out a statistical investigation. Today LS2 worked together in partners to analyse one of four topics. In this maths session we chose four questions for people to answer (what is your favorite colour, etc), and we recorded those answers on a piece of paper. Second we chose one question out of the four and used that for our graph. We used the data from the paper and created a pie chart on google sheets. We then created a summary of the data we had recorded.

Treaty of Waitangi

LI: To learn in fewer words what the text is about

Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a settlement between the Maori and British. This settlement happened when Captain Cook arrived and told the British Empire about New Zealand. When the Britain arrived to New Zealand they had planned to add New Zealand to their empire. The New Zealand chiefs weren't so eager but since they needed protection from the pakeha they agreed to a treaty that would guarantee protection and peace.
