Careers: Chef

LI: to explore a career that interest me.

I took the Career Quest quiz to help me find a career that interest me. At the end the three options I chose were a chef, winemaker and a video/film editor. This DLO shows that I chose the chef career. I chose this one because the opportunities to get this career were good, the pay was good, and the training was 1-3 years. I also had most of the personal requirements for this career so I thought this career would be a good fit for me.

Sagwala - Food Tech

LI: to follow the recipe to make sagwala.

Sagwala is a popular food dish around New Zealand, its mostly a curry based food but with spinach. First we got our equipment and ingredients, we then put the wet ingredients (tomatoes & yogurt) into measuring cups. We then put curry powder into a small measuring bowl. We the put oil into a big pot on a stove. We then cut our vegetables (onions, garlic) except the spinach and put them all into the pot. We then put the tomatoes, yogurt & curry powder into the pot and mixed it all together, we then served it on top of rice. It was fun to make and really delicous.

Long Division

LI: to understand how to use long division.

For our maths challenge this week we were learning about a strategy called "Long Division", it was difficult learning at first but now I understand it. Once we understood the strategy we challenged ourselves by solving a few math's questions in our books, if we had finish those we would go on a site to give us extra questions. We then worked in partners to create a DLO about what was long division.

Te Reo Challenge

LI: to do the Te Reo challenge.

For one of the Te Reo challenges Mrs Pryde provided us with was a challenge where it involved a lot of remembering, there were 10 actions, each action represents a maori number (tahi, rua, toru). We then had to do first action, carried on with the next actions, after that we had to do them backwards.

Art with David

LI: to show our care value

Yesterday a student from LS1 came to LS2 to teach me and some others some art skills. He taught us to choose a basic shape to start off with and draw it, he then told us that we should draw some patterns to go inside the basic shape.

How a Periscope Works

LI: To explain how a Periscope works.

Mr Johnston came and taught us about what Persicopes are, how they are used and who uses them. We found out that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. That means if the light hits the mirror at a 45 degree it reflect the light back at 45 degree. It was fun doing this activity

Light - Light & Sound

LI: To show my understanding of light.

For one of our inquiry tasks we were tasked to work in partners that we have never worked with to make a DLO about 5 facts about light. The five facts were about how light goes in a straight line, how fast light is, the light we see, how light can be reflected and how light be refracted.
