LI: to learn more about the Maori culture.
This week for Maori we talked about the waka migrations and the great migrations, the waka migrations were just one waka finding land , but the great migration were seven boats trying to find land for their tribe. We talked about what food did they eat, how they navigated and what places they sailed to.
We first talked about who was the founder of New Zealand, The person who found New Zealand was named Kupe. The food that they brought on their boats were coconuts, because they were a source of water and food. At night the sailors used to navigate by the stars, in the day they would navigate by the sun because the sun is east so the opposite way of east is west, if they wanted to find the south, they would have to find the southern cross, if you imagine a line coming from the bottom of the cross all the way to the southern star, which be near the horizon (where the sky meets the land or the sea).
This week I learned by working hard, by being focused on my work and by listening to the instructions. I also went on this site to see where they sailed to, click this if you want to go to the site.
